Installation & User Guide

O7 Buy Later for BigCommerce — by Optimum Web Marketing Consultants LLC

This guide walks through everything from installing O7 Buy Later on your BigCommerce store to reading your conversion data and sending a win-back coupon. Nothing here requires a developer or any theme file editing.

In a hurry? Install the app, approve the permissions, and you are done — the storefront widget appears on your cart page immediately. Everything below is detail.

1. Before you start

  • Your store must use a Stencil theme (all modern BigCommerce themes are Stencil).
  • You need a BigCommerce user account with permission to install apps (store owner, or a user with the Manage Apps permission).
  • Shoppers must be signed in to save items. Guests see a sign-in prompt instead of the save button — this is required because saved lists are tied to a customer account.

2. Installing the app

  1. Open the BigCommerce App Marketplace from your store control panel, or go to Apps → Marketplace.
  2. Search for O7 Buy Later and open the listing.
  3. Click Install. BigCommerce shows the permissions the app is requesting. Review them and click Confirm.
  4. You are returned to the app dashboard inside your BigCommerce control panel. The app is now live on your storefront.

What happens automatically on install

O7 Buy Later registers its storefront code through the BigCommerce Script API. You will see the entries under Storefront → Script Manager in your control panel:

ScriptWhere it runsWhat it does
Cart widgetCart page onlyAdds the Save for Later button and the saved items list.
Order trackingOrder confirmation pageRecords when a previously saved item is actually purchased.

Do not edit or delete these entries manually. They are removed automatically when you uninstall the app.

Permissions the app requests, and why

PermissionLevelWhy it is needed
ProductsRead-onlyTo show product names, images and prices in the saved list and dashboard.
CartsModifyTo move an item out of the cart when it is saved, and back in when it is restored.
ContentModifyTo install and remove the storefront scripts described above.
CustomersRead-onlyTo label customers by name in your dashboard.
OrdersRead-onlyTo match completed orders against saved items for revenue attribution.
MarketingModifyTo create the single-use win-back coupon codes you generate from the dashboard.
Store informationRead-onlyTo read your store name and contact details for support purposes.

3. Verifying it works

  1. Open your storefront and sign in as a test customer account.
  2. Add any product to the cart and open the cart page.
  3. Each cart line item now shows a Save for Later button. Click it — the item disappears from the cart and appears in a Saved For Later list below.
  4. Reload the page, or come back the next day signed in as the same customer. The saved list is still there.
  5. Click Move to Cart on a saved item. It returns to the cart with its variant and selected options intact.

4. What your shoppers experience

  • Saving. One click on any cart item. No modal, no extra page, no account creation beyond being signed in.
  • Variants are preserved. Size Medium in blue is saved as exactly that, not as a generic product link. The same product in two different variants is saved as two separate entries.
  • The list follows the customer. It is stored against their customer account, so it survives across devices and browser sessions.
  • Deleted products disappear. If you remove a product from your catalogue, it is dropped from every saved list automatically — shoppers never click a dead link.
  • Coupons arrive in-place. If you issue a win-back coupon for a shopper, the code shows in a banner above their saved list with a copy button. No email is required.

5. Your dashboard

Open Apps → O7 Buy Later in your BigCommerce control panel. The dashboard loads inside the control panel — you never leave BigCommerce.

Stats row

Total customers who have used the feature, total items currently saved, items moved back to the cart in the last 30 days, and items purchased in the last 30 days.

Conversion funnel

The three-stage journey: Saved → Moved to Cart → Purchased. Each stage counts unique customer + product + variant combinations, not raw clicks, so one indecisive shopper cannot inflate your numbers. Below the funnel you get:

  • Cart recovery rate — what share of saved items make it back to a cart.
  • Purchase rate — what share of restored items are actually bought.
  • Full funnel rate — saved all the way through to purchased.
  • Revenue — money attributable to items that were saved and later bought.

Customer list

Every customer who has saved something. Expand a row to see their saved items, their activity timeline, their purchase history grouped by order, and what is sitting in their cart right now.

AI Insights

Plain-English analysis of your own store data: what is converting, what is stalling, which products shoppers keep coming back for, and one upsell or cross-sell suggestion. Expand the card and click Analyze to generate it. It runs once per day per store, and the result is cached — reopening the dashboard shows the existing result without re-running.

AI Insights is built from aggregate metrics only — funnel counts, product names and prices, and a daily trend line. No customer names, emails or addresses are ever sent to the AI provider.

6. Sending a win-back coupon

When a shopper has saved something but has not bought it, you can push a targeted discount straight to their cart page.

  1. In the dashboard, expand the customer’s row.
  2. Click Create Coupon.
  3. Choose a percentage or fixed amount discount, set the amount, and set how many days it stays valid.
  4. Choose what it applies to — the items in their live cart, their saved items, or both.
  5. Click Create.

A single-use coupon is created in your BigCommerce store, restricted to those specific products. The code appears in a banner on that shopper’s cart page the next time they visit. You can see its status (active, used, expired) in the dashboard and delete it at any time.

7. Troubleshooting

The Save for Later button does not appear

  • Confirm you are on the cart page — the widget only runs there.
  • Confirm the shopper is signed in. Guests see a sign-in prompt instead of the button.
  • Check Storefront → Script Manager for the two O7 Buy Later entries. If they are missing, uninstall and reinstall the app.
  • If your theme is heavily customised, the cart line items may not match the expected markup. Email us and we will look at it.

Saved items are not showing for a customer

Saved lists are tied to the customer account. If the shopper checked out as a guest, or signed in with a different email, they will see a different (empty) list. This is expected.

Coupon creation fails

This almost always means the Marketing permission was not granted to the app. Uninstall and reinstall to re-approve the current permission set, then try again.

Purchases are not being tracked

Purchase tracking runs on the order confirmation page. If a shopper closes the browser before that page finishes loading, that order may not be attributed. Occasional gaps here are normal and do not affect the saved list itself.

8. Uninstalling

  1. Go to Apps → My Apps in your BigCommerce control panel.
  2. Open O7 Buy Later and click Uninstall.

Both storefront scripts are removed automatically and your storefront returns to its pre-installation state. Any coupons you already created remain in your BigCommerce store — delete them from Marketing → Coupon Codes if you no longer want them.

9. Getting help

Email admin@optimum7.com with your store URL and a short description of what you are seeing. We usually reply within two business days. Screenshots help a lot.
